Convention and Competition Guidelines

Convention Guidelines
• Registration table opens at 1:00 pm on Friday and 7:30 am on Saturday.
• Each participant junior, senior, observer, teacher, assistant teacher must pick up their own registration packet at the registration area.
• Make checks payable to DANZJAM.
• Entry fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.
• Please write separate checks for convention and competition fees. Submit both checks at same time along with convention and competition registration forms.
• Confirmations will be emailed one week prior to event. Snail mail confirmations are only sent by request.
• Registrations will be taken after cut off date for an increased rate.
• Students are not requires to attend all events. Please remember that fees are all-inclusive if you attend all events or not. There are no refunds for events not attended.
• Wrist bands, badges and/or ID tags must be visible during the entire event.
• Breakout sessions happen simultaneously within the regular class schedule. Breakout sessions have a limited enrollment. If there are not enough enrolled in a particular session it will be canceled. Breakout sessions will be guaranteed on a first come first serve basis.
• Picture taking is allowed during the convention portion of the DanzJam weekend.
• NO VIDEO CAMERAS allowed at any time at any event or in any ballroom and/or studio.
• Teachers and Assistant Teachers may take classes and notes in any room.
• Senior Students (age 13 and up) are only allowed in the Senior room.
• Junior Students (age 7-12) are only allowed in the Junior room.
• Observers allowed with paid students only.
• No one under the age of 7 is allowed to attend any DanzJam event.
• No teacher, manager or studio owners are allowed to attend as observers.
General and Hotel Guidelines
• All students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a chaperon.
• There must be at least one adult over the age of 18 in each registered hotel room.
• When attending classes, competitions, meals and events please be courteous to everyone around you.
• Keep noise to a minimum in hotel common areas and in your room.
• Please be courteous of other hotel guests. Not everyone at the hotel will be involved with DanzJam.
• Please wear warm-up clothes to and from ballrooms and hotel rooms.
• Please keep food and drinks in designated areas only.
• DanzJam has a NO Smoking policy. Please adhere to smoking regulations within the hotel.
• Anyone not abiding by hotel regulations, causing disturbances, or not conduction themselves in a professional manner will be asked to leave and escorted off the property.
• Please speak directly with a DanzJam customer service staff about problems, questions and concerns during the convention/competition.
• DanzJam has the right to use photographs, videos footage and written materials for promotional purposes associated with the DanzJam convention/competition events. This statement is true for all performers, teachers, assistant teachers, senior and junior students and observers.
Competition Guidelines
• Videotaping, flash photography, and digital photography of any kind is strictly prohibited throughout the entire competition.
• Competition fees are not included in convention fees.
• Please write separate checks for convention and competition fees. Submit both checks at same time along with convention and competition registration forms.
• Make checks payable to DANZJAM.
• Register early! There is limited space at the DanzJam New England competition. Please enter early so your studio will not be shut out. Once the competition is full it is full. NO EXCEPTIONS.
• Only dress in designated areas.
• 75% of contestants in each age division must be of the same age. If not they will compete in a higher age category.
• All routines must be age appropriate.
• Teachers may compete in the Pro-Am category only.
• Assistant Teachers may compete in any category.
• Birth certificate copies are required for proof of age.
• Contestants may not compete against themselves in the same age division and category.
• Only general easy to move props will be allowed. No fire, guns, animals, knifes, fireworks, etc.
• Coaching is not allowed from backstage or from the audience.
• No more than 2 acro/gymnastic tricks allowed in ballet, tap, jazz, hiphop and lyrical categories.
Competition Categories
• Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Hip-hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern, Open, Student Choreography
Age Divisions
• 7-9, 10-12, 13-15, 16-18, adult, Pro-am, Novice
Time Limits
• Solo - 3:00 minutes (1 contestant)
• Duo/Trio - 3:00 minutes (2-3 contestants)
• Small Group - 3:30 minutes (4-8 contestants)
• Large Group – 4:00 minutes (9-14 contestants)
• Production – 6:30 minutes (15+ contestants)
• A (5) point deduction will be taken for any dance piece exceeding the lime limit.
Music Requirements
• Two professional quality music CD's per studio.
• When using CD's you may put more than one song on each CD. Please make sure the CD has a table of contents and the studio name and entry number. Please leave 5 seconds between tracks.
• DanzJam does not except tapes for competition music.
Judges Guidelines
• All decisions by the judges are final.
• Dance pieces with be judged on technique, execution of movement, quality of content, age appropriate music and movements, performance, presentation, costumes, professionalism, cleanliness, and entertainment quality.
• Specialty awards will be given out at the judges discretion. Specialty awards change from competition to competition.
